Wrestling with God Week 3

Questions

  • Pray and invite God into this time with Him.

  • Read Genesis 28:10-12

  • Jacob encountered God in an unexpected place. When has God surprised you with His presence during a difficult journey or ordinary moment?

  • These thin places, where Heaven touches Earth, are found in ordinary places, but it’s easy to overlook them. How can you start being more observant and look out for these ordinary places that God makes holy? What might you need to remove from your life to help you see the thin places more clearly?

  • Read Genesis 28:13-14.

  • Jacob has messed up and made a lot of mistakes throughout his journey in life so far, but God still chooses him. God still uses Jacob for His greater purpose. How does that encourage you in your walk with Jesus?

  • God blesses Jacob so that Jacob can go out and be a blessing to others, not to himself. How does that shift your perspective on the blessings we receive from God?

  • Read Genesis 28:16-22

  • Jacob responded to God’s promise with a sacrifice. How do you respond when God makes His promises clear to you? Are you quick to sacrifice, or do you try to hold on to everything you have & forget that everything comes from God?

Spiritual Practice
Prayer: Spend time in prayer with God. Thank Him for all the ordinary moments in your life that He’s made holy. Ask Him to open your eyes to the thin places where you meet Him. Thank Him for blessing us so that we may be a blessing to those around us.
