The Storyteller Week 3

Questions

  • Pray and invite God into this time with Him.

  • Read Luke 18:9-14.

  • As humans, we are either drifting away from God or getting closer to Him. Where do you feel you’re at right now? Close to God, or far away from Him?

  • When you read/hear “Pharisee”, what is your first thought? What about when you read/hear “tax collector”?

  • Jesus makes it clear that the Pharisee in this story is actually the “good guy” & the tax collector is the “bad guy”. He wants to distinguish that looking “right” on the outside doesn’t mean you’re “right” with God on the inside. Talk about that distinction and how it impacts our faith.

  • How you approach God reveals what you believe about God. How do you approach God? When you pray, when you worship, when you’re alone or in a room full of people.

  • Do you struggle with comparison? Talk about some times you’ve compared yourself to someone else and think about if that moved you closer to God or farther away from Him.

  • God isn’t impressed with our good deeds, but instead wants us to confess where we’ve fallen short. Talk about a mistake you’ve made, somewhere you’ve fallen short recently and give it to God.

Spiritual Practice
Prayer: Spend time in prayer with God. Confess where you’ve fallen short. Ask God to forgive you and thank Him for loving you despite your shortcomings. Ask Him to help you stay humble and to always be in awe of the greatness of God.
