Questions
Pray and invite God into this time with Him.
Read Genesis 33:1-3.
Jacob let fear take hold of him when he saw Esau coming with his men. Have there been times in your life where you’ve let fear take hold of you? How can you stop letting fear take hold of you and instead trust God & face your fear?
Read Genesis 33:4-5.
Jacob expected anger & revenge from Esau, but Esau’s response was the exact opposite. Esau’s grace interrupted Jacob’s guilt, Esau chose to embrace Jacob when he returned. Has there been a time in your life when your guilt was interrupted with someone’s grace? What about the times where God has met you with compassion & grace?
How encouraging is it to read about how much Jacob has changed after his encounter with God? Use that as a reminder that God is working in you and through you.
Read Genesis 33:10-11.
Esau’s forgiveness reminded Jacob of God and His forgiveness. Think about the times in life where you received forgiveness and how it made you feel, versus the times where maybe you held back forgiveness towards someone else.
Read Genesis 33:12-13, 17-20.
Jacob’s life was changed after his encounter with God. He moved slowly, God’s grace changed his pace. How have you changed since your encounter with God? How can you start changing your pace to match God’s pace?
Spiritual Practice
Prayer: Spend time in prayer with God. Thank Him for working in and through you. Thank Him for all the blessings he’s placed in your life. Ask Him to help you have the strength to face your fears through Him. Ask Him to help you change your pace in life to match His pace.
