2 Samuel Week 5

Questions

  • Pray and invite God into this time with Him.

  • Read 2 Samuel 24:1-10. Describe what is happening in this passage. What does David do?

  • Though a census isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it could indicate that David chose to trust in his military numbers instead of trusting in God. When have you tried to take matters into your own hands, instead of putting your trust in God?

  • What are you putting your trust in over God?

  • How does David show pride in this story?

  • Read 2 Samuel 24:10-17. What does God do about David’s sin?

  • What is your experience with hearing about God’s judgment? Is it something you’ve heard about often?

  • How is God’s judgment the same as His love?

Spiritual Practice

Reflection: Where do you struggle with pride in your own life? What pride do you need to address before it turns into sin?

Reflection: David brings a sacrifice to God at a place called Mount Moriah. This is the mountain that Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac, where God provided another sacrifice. This is also the mountain that Jesus later dies on the cross, becoming the ultimate sacrifice, saving us from our sin. What does this tell us about God and His plans?
